The Programme monitors the transitional justice processes undertaken by the states which have ended an armed conflict and work towards peacebulding and accountability for human rights violations perpetrated in the past. Transitional justice is a rather new approach to justice which is introduced in a political transition, when society leaves an armed conflict behind and moves to democracy. It is in this context that the way to peace is designed in a delicaly and well balanced manner so that institutional answers can be found for accountability to be assumed by perpetrators of both human rights and international humanitarian law violations; for victims to fulfill their right to know the truth, and seek justice and reparation and for intittutional reforms to be adopted which may help overcome the conflict.
