01: Africa
The general strike in Guinea provokes the death of 45 people and threatens to destabilise completely the country and Mano River subregion.
The death of the historical leader of the MFDC raises concerns about the peace process in the Senegalese region of Casamance, which is suffering new clashes and displacements.
The Somali Transitional Federal Government dismisses the president of the Parliament, in a move that implies further difficulties for the dialogue with the Islamic courts as he is seen as a compromise figure.
The LRA abandons the peace talks with the Ugandese Government accusing the Sudanese mediation of not being impartial.
The Tutsi dissident Congolese general, L. Nkunda, and the Congolese Government reach a preliminary peace agreement facilitated by Rwanda with the aim of ending the violence in the East of the country.

02: Americas
Serious clashes take place in Bolivia between partisans and detractors of the autonomy in Cochabamba.
Social organisations threaten to mobilise in Ecuador if the plebiscite on the Constituent Assembly is not approved.
The most visible Colombian paramilitary leader, S. Mancuso, recognises its responsibility in the killing of 336 people, and points out the complicity of the security forces in these crimes.
F. Galan, speaker for the last 16 years of the Colombian ELN guerrilla, obtains parole after serving three fifths of 24 years in prision.
USA accepts the visit of the Special Rapporteur on the Protection of Human Rights in the Fight Against Terrorism.

03: Asia and Pacific
A police operation in which 16 people die increases the tension in the Indonesian region of Poso.
The coalition of pro independence parties in Kashmir, APHC, demands that the armed struggle ends with the aim of reaching a sustainable peace agreement.
The Maoists appoint their MPs for the interim Parliament in Nepal.

04: Europe and Central Asia
The PKK armed group leader makes a new appeal to the Turkish Government to resolve the Kurd conflict, while the army increases its military offensive in the Southeast of the country.
The United Nations Special Envoy presents in a close meeting its proposal for the Kosovo status, with emphasis in the creation of multiethnic and democratic Kosovo.
Russia announces several measures to normalise its relations with Georgia and to go beyond the crisis of the last months.

05: Middle East
United Nations states that the exodus from Iraq constitutes the main population movement in the Middle East since the creation of Israel in 1948.
The Palestinian Prime Minister reports that Israel and the USA are trying to intensify a civil war in Palestina, after both countries have promised its economic support to the PNA, M. Abbas.

06: International Organizations
The European Fundamental Rights Agency is established in Vienna to replace the European Monitoring Centre on Racism and Xenophobia.
